Celery is a marshland plant cultivated in the Apiaceae family that has been cultivated as a vegetable since antiquity. Celery has a long and fibrous stem tampering into leaves. Its leaves, stems, or hypocotyls are eaten depending on the location and these are often used in cooking as well. It is the most common plant which is cultivated all around the globe. It requires salty and wet natural habitation and grows in marshy soils near the coast.
North of the Alps wild celery is found only in the foothill zone with some salt content. It prefers moist and wet, nutrient-rich, and muddy soils. It cannot be found in Austria and are also rare in Germany.
