The botanical name of an apple tree is Pyrus malus. An apple tree is a perennial deciduous plant and a member of the Rosaceae family. Its origin is traced to Central Asia where the trees are still widely cultivated but have been naturalized in Europe and America for many centuries. China has become the major cultivator of apples accounting for 50% of global apple production. More than 7500 varieties of apples are cultivated in temperate and subtropical climates. The tree grows up to 15 feet with different branch densities depending upon the species. It bears dark green leaves, white-pinkish flowers (that blossom in springs), and fruits (that ripen in late summer or autumn).

Apple seeds are the common by-product of apple processing and they contain oil up to 28% and protein up to 34% and are rich in sulfur, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and iron. The apple seed carrier oil manufacturers derive a clear, thick vegetable oil from the seeds by the cold-press method. Apple seed oil has high levels of linoleic acid (49%), followed by oleic acid (39%) and palmitic and stearic acids.
