Clove bud oil is extracted from the flowering buds of the clove tree. Clove stem and clove leaf essential oils are also available, but essential oil distilled from the buds is favoured due to its aroma.

Clove bud oil generally contains up to 85% eugenol, a phenol that contributes to its aroma. It also has numerous other constituents as well. It is a powerful antimicrobial essential oil and it can be very irritating to the skin.

Clove bud oil is very potent and to be used at its full strength for any situation is not recommended.
