Calestrus Paniculatus is a member of the Celastraceae family having a large woody, climber with a yellow, corky bark. It grows throughout India and has been reported to grow as tall as almost 2000m. The oil obtained from these seeds contains the alkaloids celastrine and paniculatin in varying amounts. The oil obtained from the seeds of this plant has various medicinal values.
Celastrus Paniculatus is a woody fruit-bearing vine. The fruit of the plant contains seeds used in Ayurveda medicine. Studies done on rats shows that the oil obtained from these seeds are also used to treat unhealthy rats.
