Typically, only the head of cauliflower is eaten, the edible white flesh sometimes called 'curd.' The cauliflower head is composed of a white inflorescence meristem. Cauliflowers head resembles those in broccoli, which differs in having flower buds as the edible portion.

Deep, loamy, well-drained soils are required for the production of cauliflower. The soil PH and fertility should be maintained as described for the cabbage.
