Litsea Cubeba Essential Oil (May Chang) is extracted from the pepper-shaped fruits of the tree belonging to the species Lauraceae by steam distillation. The oil is a pale yellow liquid with a lemony fresh and fruity odor. The scent of May Chang is closer to lemongrass but is sweeter and finer than lemongrass. China is the main supplier of Litsea Cubeba , but it is also grown in Japan and Taiwan. It is also known by the name exotica verbena, and tropical verbena. It is commonly known as may change or mountain pepper. The gets its name from the round and small fruits that it has similar to the fruit yield by the piper cubeba, native of Java. Litsea Cubeba is known as an 'oil of tranquillity' and is known for its powerful effect in terms of promoting physical relaxation and mental calmness.
