It is mainly produced in Paraguay and France. Earlier this oil was extracted from green and young oranges.

Initially petitgrain organic oil was produced using the unripe oranges in the distilleries when these were of cherry size. This is the reason that why it has been named as petitgrain as in French it symbolizes little grains. However, because of being expensive, the extraction was further commenced using leaves and twigs of the orange tree.
